This is the best book I have read this year! A beautiful story of the love of a grandfather and granddaughter and how he taught her life lessons by watching the bees. The granddaughter would have had a very broken life, if not for that. In case you are wondering It is not "the birds and the bees" kind of story. This is the best book I have read this year! I don't know what all the hype was about this. I tried to find a reason to finish this book, but just couldn't. It is kind of weird and mediocre and just not worth my time.

What a story!! It gets better and better and better to the end. It will really make you think about your own life - "Have I done all that I wanted to do?" "Am I making the right choices?" " What kind of relationships am I building?" P,S. It is so well written that I wonder if Sparks had a personal interest in it.What a story!! It gets better and better and better to the end. Some of the issues in this book were too close to home for comfort. I had to keep reading to see how they dealt with it and glad I did. It wasn't a "pretty" story, but one that needed to be told. I put off reading it for several months. The title had me put off. It seemed to make no sence. Then when Peter and Kate were dining out on their anniversary and having a heart to heart about their past, he apologized for her cheap ring and the way he had proposed, she said "well then ask again, yes"Some of the issues in this book were too close to home for comfort. The most depressing book I ever read. I thought it was, at first, just to set the scene of how terrible the dust bowl days were, but it went on and on and on through the whole book with the same intensity as "The Great Alone". My grandparents and parents lived through those days, and they told some heart-wrenching stories too, but not with so much drama. The most depressing book I ever read. First, let me say learning more about Egypt was interesting. On the flip side there was way to much taking God's name in vain and violence. Next, Erica was not a very believable character. She put herself in danger and tried too hard to prove women are tough way to aggressively to be real.First, let me say learning more about Egypt was interesting. I just read several comments in this long list, and can't believe how many glossed over the deep insight the author has!! Here I sit in my power wheelchair, typing with one finger, quarantined, my caregivers coming in with meds. every 3 or 4 hours. I am bored, depressed angry, irritable, snapping at people!! Tears are always at the brink, as I watch my life dissolve, melt, and vanish into thin air. And when "friends" say things like "oh, but look at all that you have and be grateful for it", I feel like they are pushing my head under water, and holding it til I say "okay, okay, I am grateful! But I am not. They don't have a clue!! I also lost my love. He sat here and told me about my replacement, and not a dam thing I could do about it. I am still in here!! I am still a viable person! I hope someone out there will understand and be my Louise.I just read several comments in this long list, and can't believe how many glossed over the deep insight the author has!! If you enjoy historical fiction as I do, you will love this one. It is the story of the war in the 1640s between King Henry I and Oliver Cromwell. But that only sets the scene behind the real story, at least for me! The life, love, hurts, secrets, hope, failures, successes, fear, and more of Alinor and James and the 1640s people of England, is so well written by Phillipa Gregory that it may well be her very best ever! Typical of Gregory, don't assume you know where it will end.If you enjoy historical fiction as I do, you will love this one.
