Screen time is divided evenly between four members of the quartet: One almost wishes they had focused on Walken since his character is so appealing, and the actor exhibits what seems to be credible technical ability on the cello. And yet…

Enjoyable movie about the personal connections and disagreements that arise from years of working together and facing the sudden upheaval of a member getting diagnosed with a terminal disease. This movie is not action-driven but rather the…

Yaron Zilberman takes a pretty ho-hum tale and makes it even more lifeless. If Todd Solondz had directed , it might have been something else: Hoffman could have reprised his part in "Happiness" as an obscene phone caller, Christopher…

Wow, what a great movie. If you are a fan of any of the main characters, (or all of them!) you will appreciate their performances as nuanced and at times understated which masks their real pain. All four members of the quartet go through…

Stunning meditation on art and love, exquisite script and performances -- particularly Walken and Hoffman. Not to mention the Beethoven.

An intense and satisfying film, if you are interested in complicated characters and relationships. As others have noted, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Christopher Walken, and Catherine Keener give great performances. Highly recommended!

An interesting look into what a serious musician's life is like. The stress and hardships that are needed to succeed.

This is a 2012 American drama directed by Yaron Zilberman. It is an emotionally-charged, engaging and powerful drama. It is a must-see for music lovers.

After 25 successful years together, the aging members of a famous string quartet are facing their biggest challenge; the moral backbone of the group, cellist Peter Mitchell, is retiring for medical reasons. In the void left by his pending…

Slow moving? Classical music, especially string quartets, is slow moving for sure. But contrary to one comment, great acting does make for a great movie. At least, we think so.

Great acting can’t save this movie. This is a solid drama. Very slow, predictable and boring. Don’t bother.

Not a simple movie ... slow at times ... but characters are deep and complicated. I chose this movie because it had PSH in it ... but all the actors were excellent, especially Christopher Walken. Not a usual roll for him ... he surprised…

This is a really dry, dull and boring movie. Predictable and makes great music insipid. Not recommended.

Hmm.. It is not a mediocre movie... Nor great either! A bit slow-moving at times.. Heavy on classical music world! I love classics, but this was a bit overwhelming.. I thought some characters could have been built up more.. Interesting…

It was O.K for a home TV movie. I was entertained and interesting. But it was NOT worth the long library wait or the price to rent from a Red Box.

A good story marred by sleazy soap opera elements. Phillip Seymour Hoffman is miscast; Christopher Walken is marvelous. Three stars for the glorious music which is the real star of this film.

Very well acted & the subject matter had such potential for deep emotional exploration; however the script was a complete snooze fest.

Decent acting, but a banal and somewhat tawdry story: fairly standard cinematic fare.

The oldest member of a string quartet comes down with Parkinson's, which leads to the manifestation of long latent conflicts amongst the remaining members. Wonderfully acted with great respect to the music.

Fantastic cast and great acting but I couldn't have cared less about the storyline. Dreary, slow paced drama about classical music and the personal lives (dysfunctional) of the members of a quartet.

Crisis brought out the suppressed relationship problems among the members of a quartet that had played together harmoniously for decades. Interesting musical takes and how to cope with the Parkinson's disease.

A soap opera drama set in the rarefied world of classical music. The director aims to have the plot mirror the composition of Beethoven's Quartet #131; at one point, Christopher Walken's character gives a summary of the piece and it's…

Disappointing, especially so with three favourites – Walken, Keener, Hoffman – in the cast. A quality script is not always a criterion for CW, but we expect more of PSH, although his role is arguably the most interesting, doubly so because…
