In his down-to-Earth but ever-humourous new book, Peter Brown Hoffmeister provides tips and tricks for getting kids used to the great outdoors while preserving parents' sanity. Most poignantly, he advocates letting go of the desire for a "perfect" wilderness experience; he encourages families to get out there, get dirty, get curious and just do it.

The author's experience as an educator and outdoorsman shines through in his writing. He truly believes that a young person's curiosity enriches every fresh air experience, from backyard camping to serious mountaineering to 100 mile scooter rides (no joke!). He has a refreshingly glib attitude about going with the flow and not worrying about small mishaps but also prioritizes safety and coaches readers on how to practically set goals and expectations for excursions so as to avoid disappointment.

"Let Them Be Eaten By Bears" ultimately wants kids to be kids and adults to feel comfortable with the scrapes, bruises and fears that can accompany outdoor excursions.
