A good read from a Canadian author set in Canadian province - Newfoundland.A man and his son go missing in the wilds of west Newfoundland as friends and RCMP, who sometimes are one and the same, search for him. His trail leads them along the coast and through numerous small outports and villages.
Fradkin leads the reader along with the search parties through an interesting landscape while at the same time pulling the reader into a cat and mouse chase but never makes it unbelievable or predictable. Most enjoyable.
I prefer her Inspector Green series.
Found this a bit tedious in places. Although the story held enough interest that I finished it, I found I skipped a lot of paragraphs to get to the more exciting parts.
This survival story set in the forest and coastlines of Newfoundland just goes on too long. I finally got tired of reading about the characters tramping through the rough terrain with elements of nature getting in their way of rescue and misguided rescue teams. However, the author keeps the tension up throughout the story and manages to incorporate a subplot about immigrant smuggling. A good read.
