This book was pretty good, until the last couple of chapters. The ending was really unsatisfying.

This is my new favourite book. I haven't had a new favourite book in a year or two (and that's not through lack of reading). The alternate history in this is exceptionally well thought through. Impressively thought out. So we've got a boarding school situation, a domineering old aunt, political intrigue, a questionable institute, ghosts and unnatural phenomena and a foreign young man with a penchant for detective work. Nothing I didn't like about it. (Except the sequel's still on order.)
