Intriguing but ominous story, and a fast read. Reminded me of 1984 and Animal Farm. You can translate the current political rhetoric (greed energy, climate change, global warming, elimination of vehicles, one child per family, all the "political correctness") being tossed around now and see how things could potentially evolve madly like this, especially the way social media and the internet have changed the speed and content of information/misinformation. Since the story is predicated on a United Nations initiative which really exists, originally evolving since 1972, it's particularly apt. It's all about power, control, and following the money trail. I thought it started with the failure of Al Gore to win his election, but it seems to have started with another billionaire, Maurice Strong an executive with the UN.
