This book/novella somehow escaped my notice when it first came out, I was glad to find it. After reading it, I'm not sure I'm so glad. It is dark, nihilistic and abrading to anyone religious. It's almost like this was a bet that Scalzi could burn religion to the ground in 100 easy pages. His story asserts that faith is what keeps Gods alive, just like unicorns rely on belief to remain alive. Scalzi is a fine writer, but even though I'm not religious in my own life, I hope he eschews the literal eviseraction of God in his future writings.
