How far would you go to save your child? To the ends of the earth? A mother's greatest fear, the kidnapping of her child, sends Myra on a world wide adventure on open water in a small boat in search of her daughter in a post apocalyptic water world. Good, constant action and adventure; pirates; trying to trust others in a world gone mad. Myra is every mother who has lost a child, in whatever world the story is set.How far would you go to save your child? To the ends of the earth? The write up about the author says it all: Jennie Melamed is a psychiatric nurse practitioner who specializes in working with traumatized children. During her doctoral work at the University of Washington, she investigated anthropological, biological, and cultural aspects of child sexual abuse.
Melamed presents us with a society so strange to our norm that we are intrigued by the girls who are rebelling against their culture and traditions that we need to keep reading to discover if the girls are able to leave or change the society. Without disclosing the end, leaving or changing the society is dealt with by each child in their own way.
A thought provoking read.

A great documentary on the artistic talents of a Chinese man whose father is suffering dementia. The son is building the set for a play that he is creating. He involves his father to create/help with the musical score. His father was the conductor of a symphony in China. The play parallels the son and father's lives through the use of fantastically designed and created metal characters; it also parallels the story of the son as adult, while the father struggles with dementia. The whole production is fascinating - from the writing of the play, musical creation, building of intricate set designs and characters, who are life sized clockwork machines. A very timely story while the baby boomers experience a rise in dementia; and the children left to care for them. The play production is awesome too.A great documentary on the artistic talents of a Chinese man whose father is suffering dementia. The son is building the set for a play that he is creating. An easy read. The story in a post apocalyptic setting, but the story could take place at any time. During the resettlement of community, one man on the east coast, want to travel to the west coast to meet up with the woman he loves. The story involves, his travel; the struggle in her community; and the overcoming of obstacles so they can be together. This is not a love story so much as a building of community, the physical as well as emotional communities. Well written. I look forward to another book by this first time author. An easy read. One of Grisham's slow moving books. Interesting enough plot and characters, it just is there - not doing too much.

I enjoyed this book; the stories of 3 separate people in 3 different times. The author writes in a very compelling manner (like waves on the water). Character development is well done and we can sympathize or empathize with the characters. Story lines are not always linear. However, after such a good book, the ending was weak. It was not until the last few chapters where the intertwining of the lives of 3 individuals was explained, giving for a very disappointing ending.I enjoyed this book; the stories of 3 separate people in 3 different times. I watched this on Netflix. It is a strange, sad, gritty, violent story of a young boy brutally sold to a thief in order that he learn a 'profession'. After being sent to jail at a young age, he returns home. His mother is raising numerous children in dire circumstances, doing whatever she can to support them. Tragic is what this story is.
